A shocking video of a male customer assaulting a female employee at a McDonald’s branch in Kenilworth has gone viral, sparking widespread outrage on social media.
By Tuesday morning, the footage had garnered over 328,000 views and 1,300 reactions, with many condemning the attack.
In the video, the white male patron is seen standing inside the restaurant’s kitchen, an area restricted to employees. The black female worker firmly tells him, “You wait for your food.”
The situation escalates when the man raises his hand, gestures with two fingers, and abruptly pushes her. She immediately warns him, “Don’t dare push me.”
As the assault continues, she grabs a chip fryer to shield herself while he attempts to strike her again. She forcefully pushes him back, demanding, “Who do you think you are, to hit a woman?”
Despite disappearing momentarily from the camera’s view, the man remains in the kitchen and hurls a vulgar insult at her, calling her a “piece of s*.”**
Stunned customers can be seen recording the altercation. Eventually, a group of men steps in to intervene, confronting the aggressor before the video cuts off.
The Cape Argus has reached out to both McDonald’s and law enforcement for comments and will provide updates as more details emerge.
Public reaction on social media has been intense, with some users arguing that the worker should have defended herself more aggressively.
“I would have grabbed hot oil if I was working—then as he pushed me, he would get it in his face and chest,” one commenter wrote.
Others debated the consequences, noting that she might have been arrested for retaliating.
Frustration also grew over the delay in bystanders stepping in to help.
“Men just stood there watching another man assault a woman,” one person remarked, while another asked, “I want to see what happened after the big guys entered.”
As calls for justice mount, the incident raises concerns about workplace safety and how employees should be protected from violent customers.
